Hi, I’m Robin! I’m passionate about all things heart, health, and home. Here, you'll find tips, resources, and encouragement to help you flourish in every area of life. Grab a coffee and stay awhile!
From initial build design to foundational decor, seasonal decor, and fresh touches, there is one tool that I use as a starting point for it all. My number one design hack…the secret that holds it together….here it is….drum roll please……
A whole house color palette!
I know. I know. Maybe this initially sounds restrictive. Maybe it seems boring or binding. But it’s actually been a game changing anchor point to great design with overall home appeal.
What a whole house color palette consists of:
Five or more complimentary colors that can be implemented in your spaces. This gives variety and depth with consistency.
Base colors (think walls and cabinets) as well as colors that inform accent piece color choices!
Colors that will go the distance style-wise and aren’t overly trendy.
How to use your whole house color palette:
Keep your palette handy. Take a photo of it on your phone, keep a copy in your car or purse. Have it with you when making any decor decision!
If using your palette during the build process or during a renovation, use your base colors for wall and cabinet choices. For main areas and larger furniture pieces I recommend more neutral colors while saving your pops of color for smaller spaces such as 1/2 bathrooms, bedrooms or accent furniture.
Mix and match throughout your home. You’ll get variety in your spaces without losing overall appeal!
Use your color palette as a macro guide! Maybe your living room rug is patterned, but has an overall color tone that matches your palette! Trying a neat wallpaper that flows but isn’t fully compliant? That’s ok! Yes and Yes! It’s meant to help keep cohesion, not restrict creativity.
Know when to break free from it! Choose pops of color that work with several of your palette’s colors! Mindfully break free in artwork, florals, accent pillows or small decor pieces. You’ll love and appreciate the design while still maintaining a consistent feel!
**Special note for new home construction: make sure your color palette remains consistent inside and outside your home! They don’t need to be identical, but cohesion matters! Your inside decor should feel like an extension of the exterior!
